Airtel
Harassment / Account Closure

Dear Airtel Customer Services,

I had used Airtell broadband service in May and I had disconnected the service after the usage. I had paid the entire balance and returned all the loaned devices (phone, modem etc).

Suddenly in October my mother received a call on her cell 9919996263 from Airtell account services that we have not paid our bill, and she owes around 10, 000 INR. And she has a court order against her name. She tried to explain that she has paid the remaining balance but person on the other end did not want to hear anything. A couple of days later she received a court letter for her to be appear in the court.

We did not know what do in this case because it is more than 2 years and we have already paid the balance, and considering it is over 2 years, we have not kept the receipt of 1000 INR bill at the time of account closure. Now suddenly after 2 years, Airtell wants to charge all the balance. If we had not really paid the bill why did not Airtel contact us at the time of account closure or couple of months after that.

To worsen things, on Nov 18th, someone again called my mom, and the person told he is calling from New Delhi Police Office and wants her to appear in the court next day in New Delhi with 50, 000 INR. If she does not appear then she may have to go prison.

Currently I am not in India, and she is by herself. This is purely insane behavior by Airtel. First, we have already paid everything, and who will want to save a receipt of such a small item for over 2 years. And even if we had not paid, Airtel should have contacted a few months later instead 2 years later. This is nothing but harassment.

I hope someone at Airtel can help.
