Jet Lite Airlines
No response to complaint filed with Jetlite on loss of items in my cabin baggage

I traveled from Kolkata to Mumbai on October 9, by Jetlite flight S2 702 with my infant son. The PNR No is NVINFW. I had one check in baggage which I duly received at Mumbai airport. On reaching home, when I opened to suitcase, I realized that the suitcase had been opened and tampered with in my absence. Most of my clothes were in complete disarray and one piece of semi precious jewellery was missing. The jewellery case was lying open on top of the other items. The jewellery in question was a gold plated silver necklace with a pair of matching earrings in blue minakari work of estimated price of about Rs. 5000. On discovering the loss, I immediately called up the customer service of Jetlite where I was informed that I need to make a formal complaint by visiting the Jetlite counter at the Mumbai domestic airport. I rushed to the airport only to find out that my visit to the airport was not required and all I needed was to send an email to the baggage services id. As if this harrasment was not enough I was also quite rudely told that I should have known that carrying jewellery or other valuables in check in baggage is not recommended thereby giving me the impression that the airline authorities are not concerned with the fact that my baggage was opened unauthorized & the staff handling baggage at various points may actually open and tamper a passenger's baggage since the sole responsibility lies with the passenger!

While I was not aware that Airlines do not recommend carrying valuables in the check in baggage, the loss of any item, valuable or otherwise is not acceptable. No one authorizes any airline staff to rummage through a passengers baggage in his / her absence and misplace an item, whether it be a piece of jewellery or an inexpensive hairpin. I had sent a mail to [email protected] on the next day itself seeking an investigation to this immediately and claim damage compensation in the event the item is not recovered. It is also pertinent to mention that I have also lodged a formal complaint at the Airport police station last evening. However, 3 weeks have passed and I have received no response to my complaint despite follow up on the same id. Also I have been repeatedly calling on the baggage services phone no provided to me as 022-26156324 and so far the phone has not been answered even once!
