Lousy customer service at AIRTEL

I live in UK and arrived into India on 15th Decdember 2008 morning. Ever since, I have been calling up folks at Airtel Bangalore to get my 'Lifetime Connection' live again. I had Santhosh from Sales, who hung up the phone on me, Mahesh from customer servioce giving me a total misleadiong information, Sathyaprasad who kept me on eternal hold... and finally I got hold of Kiran who managed to as I believe is reliable information. At least 100 minutes of STD call from Cochin to Banaglore customer service- ridiculous with no solution yet. I tried to go escalation path to be only told that the supervisors are busy on other calls.

To the bottomline... I took this lifetime connection in year had it flushing with top up. I used to travel to India frequently. However for past one year I have not travelled to India. Airtel now surprises me with information that the lifetime connection which they charge a one time Rs 999 is not lifetime if not charged every 6 months. Isn't this absurd? They have not even communicated this to me by any means. I have always had this number since 9 years although it was ported few times within different plans in Airtel.

Airtel does not allow easy recharges to be done on internet. Friends, It seems awkward as to why a company this big which uses big bollywood names for publicity tries to earn money through such dubious means. I feel cheated.
