Sony Ericsson and Airtel sim not working togethe

I bought a new Sony Ericsson mobile K530i 3 days back. I checked its working with my dad's airtel sim, and it worked well. 2 days ago, I bought my own sim from Airtel. It was activated all fine, but when I returned home, I found that it did not receive a tower. I waited for a day just to make sure, and it showed "Emergency Calls only" at some times, and "No network connections" at other times. Other airtel mobiles at my home were working just fine. I thought it must be a problem with my mobile, and even had it replaced. But still had the problem.

I tried calling 121 but I didn't get the line. Today I went to Airtel Customer Care where they made a call to 121, and I stated my complaint, and they said that I needed to buy a duplicate sim costing 250. I protested that I hadn't even started using the mobile. They said they'd check it up and hung. Today, I changed my sim to an old nokia phone, and it worked ok, when I received a call from Airtel for address verification. I stated my problem when they were done, and they say they've been receiving calls about it for 4 months. She said the newer sims had this problem of not working with sony ericsson mobiles.

I can't believe that there is a compatibility problem between such big companies in the country. I hope airtel takes care of this issue, and solves this real fast or they'd be losing a lot of customers who actually trust Airtel.
