Airtel
Misleading service during Festivals

I am an user of Airtel prepaid mobile service in Bangalore. On the day of Diwali, ie on 5th November I sent a few local bulk messages to my friends wishing them Diwali and to my astonishment I was charged with Rs.62.00 for the entire service which was supposed to be free for my plan.

When I called the Customer care, I was informed that during festivals normal sms charges apply. But I was not happy that a provider like Airtel could not inform its customers regarding these before-hand. Instead they cheat and act like a silent killer deducting the money without prior intimation.

The operator whom I spoke to in customer services was surprised that I am not familiar with these norms! I am an NRI who recently came to India and took Airtel service a month ago, so how can you expect somebody to understand with these offers without any prior intimation? Airtel keeps on sending Third-party offers every other day but could not itself stand up to expectations. I even registered a complaint (CSMSP21105185949) and was promised to be called within 2 hours but as expected nothing really worked out.

India still seems to lag behind in the 21st century with its conniving ways of doing business when other countries atleast compete in a transparent and a compliant way of customer service. The day is not far when Airtel will lose its value and be a victim of fraud services.
