Airtel
Wrongly billed with high amount

I am using the no 8197209957 from Feb and shifted to postpaid on 18th June'11. Its a Rs 300 monthly plan with 750 mins of talktime and 1 GB free data usage for 1st month. After my number is converted to postpaid i called customer care to inquire about my data usage plan and was told that 1 GB data is free for 1st month. After that I have received a msg on 23rd June that my unbilled amount is Rs 4325/- and that it exceeds my credit limit of Rs 1200/- and my service will be barred if i do not make the payment immediately. After contacting customer care, i came to know that i was billed for using mobile internet which is supposed to be FREE. Customer care people, floor managers and nodal officer just talked senselessly and couldn't provide any details and just asked me to pay the money. Now my service is barred and causing lot of inconvenience. When I checked the bill details on 28th June'11, I was shocked to find out that my bill amount is Rs 3524 and i was charged Rs 3000 for mobile internet usage. My total usage was 470MB, which is less than my allocated 1GB of free usage. Now the nodal officers say that, as my number is shifted to postpaid on 18th June and my billing date is 26th June, I'm eligible for only 270 MB for 9 days. This was not at all conveyed to me by airtel personnel when I asked them about my data plan. Now when I ask them, all they say is a SORRY for not informing me of this before hand, accepting that its their fault and giving me waiver of Rs 500/- and asking me to pay the balance of Rs 3000/-. I feel like cheated and am deprived of using my number for 6 days till today. Is this the way for India's biggest telecom company to do business and rob people of their hard earned money. I cannot explain, how much time and money I wasted speaking to the Nodal officers & customer care peolpe. Its humiliating and causing me a lot of mental agony which cant be expressed. What do I have to do now? I'm writing here hoping that this will be escalated to Airtel higher authorities or to the Consumer courts.
