To get back my insurance amount after maturity

I had policy in aviva named as saveguard which had taken in 2008 july . i paid the first premium through canara bank when they had tie up with them.later their was no any follow up by the agent .now this july i got letter directly from the company that my policy is lapsed.they are not ready to give back the premium i paid after deducting their charges.what shall i do now
