ATM gobbling up money

Today, 07Sept I went to HDFC Bank ATM at Mico Layout, Bangalore-560076, and gave valid commands to the machine for withdrawal of Rs.3, 000/-. The ATM machine processed my request, counted the notes as evident from the sound it makes, then the Debit Card and the Debit Memo (showing deduction of Rs.3, 000/- and present available balance) came out, but not the money. I checked with my bank (Indusind Bank, Nagpur) and was told that the amount has really been been debited from my account. I spoke to HDFC Bank's Customer Care Centre and was told that since I am not an HDFC account holder (so don't have HDFC Customer ID), they cannot help me in any way and that I should contact my own bankers (Indusind). I am now going to contact the nearest HDFC Bank in Bangalore to see if they can help me or show me a solution to this problem. I am an old person of infirm health. I only wish that there were some easy and effective "Man-made" solutions to such "Machine-made" problems.
