Harassment to pregnant Women

Cars & Transport

Dear Sir/Mam,

I was at 27 week of maternity on the day of Journey (21st Mar). Following were my booking with Indigo Air Lines. I was traveling with my Husband “Mr Subrata Roy”.

• Agartala Kolkata – 21st Mar 15:25 -- 6E 362– PNR – Q2BCLG

• Kolkata Bangalore -- 21st Mar 19:35 – 6E 342 – PNR – S2CDCI

Indigo person incharge “Mr Arindam Deb Barman” at Agartala Airport, didn’t allow us to travel on that day. Initially gave us both the boarding pass. After sometime they asked to produce “Fit to Fly” certificate. I was not charring “Fit to Fly” certificate as our doctor at Bangalore said till 34 week nothing is required.

I have produced following items

• Prescription from “Dr Partha Pratim Saha”, Agartala dated 16th Feb stating everything normal.

• All the maternity documents from Bangalore Manipal Hospital by “Dr Shoba Venkat” dated 20th Jan. Everything was normal with my scan reports.

• Also produced “Fit to Fly” certificated from local doctor in short time. Which they invalided saying the certificate is not written on paper Pad.

I was ready to sign on “indemnity bond” and I was very much fit to travel. I also said I will travel on my risk.

Even with all those documents they have stopped us to travel on 21st of March from Agartala-kolkata-Bangalore.

It cost us following

• It costs “Six Thousands Rupee or 6000.00 RS” for rescheduling all tickets.

• Harassed us at Agartala Airport.

• My scan Appointment at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore got cancelled.

• My Husband lost 1 day at work and missed important meeting there.

“Mr Arindam Deb Barman” has re-scheduled our tickets as following

• Agartala Kolkata -- 22nd Mar 10:10 – 6E 204 -- PNR -- Q2BCLG

• Kolkata Bangalore -- 22nd Mar 15:20 – 6E 156 -- PNR -- S2CDCI

We have produced “Fit to Fly” certificated on 22nd Mar to travel from Agartala to Kolkata.

In Kolkata to Bangalore flight nobody asked me to produce “Fit to Fly”. They asked me to sign only “indemnity bond” . They helped a lot in while travelling in Kolkata to Bangalore flight.

I have following question

• Why rules/treatment in Agartala Airport and Kolkata Airport not same.

• Why Indigo stopped me to travel at 27 week of normal pregnancy where as all other airlines in the world are not so strict till 34weeks of pregnancy.

• One person from Agartala Indigo Airlines said that pregnancy rules is available in e-tickets which totally wrong statement.

I request Indigo Airlines to take following actions.

• Refund “Six Thousands Rupee or 6000.00 RS” to my Husband credit card.

• Take action on Indigo in charged person “Mr Arindam Deb Barman” at Agartala Airport for harassing a pregnant woman.

I have checked the pregnancy rules with following air lines

• Air India

o At the time of making the booking, if the pregnancy is beyond 32 weeks, upto and including 35 weeks, a medical certificate from the attending physician must be obtained stating that she is fit to travel.

• King Fisher

o For travel within India, an expectant mother is permitted to travel till the end of 36th week without a medical certificate provided there are no prior medical complications

• JetLite

o Expectant Mothers, till the end of 35 weeks of pregnancy may be permitted to fly on JetLite flights provided there are no prior complications.

Thanks and regards,

Sharmistha Roy
