Sub: Non-Allowing to travel even after having confirmed ticket due to Over Booking.

Dear Sir,

I have faced a worst incident of my life and may be it’s a worst case in history of air business worldwide when a person having a valid airline ticket by making proper payment has not been allowed to travel by giving reason “OVERBOOKING”.

I booked by ticket on 31st of December (well in advance), PNR NO. DSOMLS for going to Calcutta from Mumbai on dated 20.01.2012. The ticket was booked for To and Fro Journey flight No. 9W615, Return flight No. 9W616.

I reached to Mumbai Airport well in time. When I approached to counter for issue of boarding pass they informed me that my ticket has been cancelled by them due to OVER BOOKING. It is really surprising that how airline can book tickets more than seat available in aircraft. After a huge argument and discussion, the airline has issued me a letter (scanned copy attached), where it is mentioned that they are cancelling my ticket due to OVER BOOKING.

Airline has forced me to sign a settlement letter only then they were agree to refund the money. They offered Rs. 4000.00 compensation. This was forceful and without my willingness. I accepted the same as Airline clearly told me that they will refund the money only when I will sign the settlement amount.

The worst attitude of airline is they have neither they have informed me anything in advance nor they arranged alternate flight. This shows their worst behavior and attitude towards customers. If this is the situation, travelling with airline is worst then train or any journey.

The above said incident was shocking for me. I lost my opportunity and suffered huge losses besides mental harassment.

Since the reason giving by airline that journey is cancelled due OVERBOOKING means they Jet Airways is involved in incorrect practices as they are booking the tickets more than seats available in aircrafts. It means nobody is sure that whether he will be allowed for journey even after purchase of a valid ticket after making payment.

Certainly this is going to be start a worst practice in airline business and people like me are going to suffer badly besides their losses of business and opportunities.

Keeping in view of my losses due to forceful cancelation of ticket, I have suffered huge losses and mental torture also. Hence, I claim an amount of Rs. 1, 00, 00, 000.00 (Rupees one crore only) from Jet Airways towards compensation of my damages.

You are requested to please look into the matter and arrange payment of my damages immediately.
