Company not solving problem of under warranty product

From almost day 1 the USB of the device was defective. I had great difficulty in charging the device and transferring any media to it. But one day it just stopped charging and the USB would not connect. Since it has been just 6 months that I purchased the product, I went to the service center (Redington India Ltd) and they said the usb cable provided with the product was defective. So I tried various cables and none of them worked. So I went to the service center again and they sent it to Bangalore for servicing . 15 days later the person at the service center calls me to say that the warranty does not cover the USB port. She said I have to pay to get that part repaired. So, is she saying if the product is defective then the consumer has to suffer the consequences? I want my tablet repaired and if not then I want a new piece.
