Laptop not working

HI .. I have purchased HP Pavilion Laptop in 2007 .. It worked good for 1 year... After that when I start up Multiple screens appeared I even Updated the video driver and Formatted the system and installed Windows Vista using their CD's (Recovery disk) But nothing worked. Some people say that I have to completely change the motherboard. So i contacted HP for that. But they say it would cost double the amount of today's Laptop cost. So I m not using my Laptop put it aside without any use. What I can do with that... DO they put any Exchange offer Please help .. I also recommend don't buy HP laptops
