HP Bad Service and Product Failure

I have a HP Printer Deskjet F4488 series. This was purchased during the month of September/ October. During the end of November I did find that my Laptop was not detecting the Printer. Tried reinstalling and it did not work. Then tried connecting with another Laptop and the same problem did exist. We tried looking out for the methods given in the HP website to tackle such problems and couldn't find a resolution.
Then, we did contact the reseller from whom we bought it and they sent in their service person and he did the same as we did.then he took it the Printer with him and said that they will give to HP Service people and get back... After two weeks they have come back now saying that the Printer Board has gone due to high voltage caused by lightning. If that was the cause then my Laptop should also have got problems but that didn't happen. the other interesting part is that the Copier and the Scanner in the same Deskjet are working. So what type of lousy design and make they have done for a single product with such expert knowledge and service. The cost for the board is about Rs.1700 which is almost half the price of the new printer itself. Is this the exact service that one can provide?
Now my reseller is also not recommending HP anymore for their service is not upto the mark.
