Not returning original Birth certificate

My children joined in ABS Vidhya mandir last year 2010. Now we are shifting, they are not returning the original birth certificate that they have taken at the time of admission. They are telling that its CBSE rule.

Is it a rule of CBSE schools that not to return the original birth certificate of the child that they have taken at the time of admission???
