Not cooling

We had bought Godrej Frostfree 2 door refrigerator in Jan. For 9 years we have luckily had no problems, except minor wear and tear replacements and found the Bangalore service centre prompt and precise in their services.

3 weeks back we shifted to Ahmedabad and since coming here we observed less cooling which we initially attributed to change in climatic conditions. But when food started spoiling, we lodged a complaint (no. 782189). Technician visited on 20th July and after due testing collected an advance payment of Rs. 1200/-.

We were advised this was for compressor testing. If compressor was found defective then replacement cost would be Rs. 3600/- (Rs. 1200/- to be adjusted and only balance to be paid). If compressor was ok then only gas filling would be required (optional), total cost of which is Rs. 1200 (already collected). If we didnt want even gas to be refilled, Rs. 1000/- would be refunded and only Rs. 200 retained as service charge.

On 23 July another technician visits and after testing compressor, advises us that it working FINE and only gas filling is required. So we go ahead with the gas refilling.

By evening we observe that cooling has drastically reduced and we call local service centre. They advise us to wait for 24 hours.

On 24th July we call them again and inform that cooling was even lesser than prior to refilling gas. They promise to send someone to check at earliest. noone comes on 24-25th july.

On 26th July we file a fresh complaint with toll free number (complaint no. 784293). The 1st technician comes and checks cooling and says there is problem with gas refilling. There is moisture in it, so it will be redone.

2nd technician comes back for gas refilling and when he open up the fridge again, he informs us that there is now problem with compressor (!!!), pumping is not happening.

We fail to understand why this was not diagnosed initially? His justification is that it was pumping OK when he tested on 23rd July. Also when we questioned him why colloing has reduced even more, his reply is that type of gas refilled is different than what was used earlier and this gives less cooling!!!

So is Godrej company ripping off people by using inferior quality of gas?

Also, now we are been pressurised into paying additional Rs. 3600/- (so our total cost is 1200 3600). If the technician had tested properly, it would have saved us not only rs. 1200 but also lot of agony of living without refrigerator in Ahmedabad heat.
