Battery Exploded

I had bought 3 luminous inverters and batteries about 3 years ago. As desired, we requested for service many times during the warranty period but no service was provided. Once one of the service man was in the neighbourhood (they know one of the luminous dealer) and I requested him to visit my place, He did but didnt refilled the batteries and promised to come the next day but never returned.

Frustrated, we started refilling the battery water ourselves (With uncertain power conditions in Delhi, It is impossible to live without a working inverter).

On 12th Apr I was refilling one of the batteries. I had filled in 2 cells and was waiting for my wife to bring in another bottle of water when suddenly the battery EXPLODED.

My left eye was injured (vision has for now gone blurred and as the doctors say, it may take about a month for it to return back to normal **hopefully**) and the sound of the blast has caused sound trauma to my ears which still resonate to slightly high pitches (I am still on medication for both).

Upon calling the executive to urgently attend the exploded battery (as acid was splilling over), Lumunious service man came on 15th (probably for luminous, exploded battery is not an emergency after all). To our horror, the service person refused to take any action and said this is not part of their duty.

Please note that we had not asked for compensation, nor had asked for replacement but only to corden off this battery so that no further damage happens. (I have now called upon our local electrican who has graciously removed this broken battery but I had wished that this was done by so called experts)

The reason that was told about the explosion is probably a candle which was lit nearby (about a metre away from the battery).

So following is my complaint:

1, If Batteries are potential explosive devices then why dont companies mark them as explosives / flammable (as we do on petrol containers etc). I had no idea that a battery can explode like this and had i been informed by company then probably i would have not suffered.

2. Luminous after sales service is pathetic to say the least and I wish that some action is taken against such companies who market heavily at the time of sales and then forget there customers.
