Deactivation of sim card

Hello

I'am using an Airtel No: for the past 1.6 years. My mobile no: is 9746159276 (Kerala Sim). For the past two months i have not been using my no:. Today morning wen i put my sim. My sim Card registration got failed. I would like to know the reason for this as my sim in havin validity til 2012. when i called customer service from an other mobile the response was not positive. I want to know the reason for deactivating my sim card
