Defective Product

I had puchased quite many furnitures from the above company retail showroom (Home Town) at Rajarhat Kolkata valued at Rs 1, 40, 000/- (one lac & forty thousan only) on the 19th of June. After a few days of the purchases the furnitures were delevered at my flat and subsequentlt assembled by the representatives of the aforesaid company.

Out of the above there was a sofa set comprising of 3 pcs with brown leather upholsterypriced at Rs 44, 999/-..Since about begining of Oct '2011 the leather upholtery on all the 3 pcs of sofa started peeling of in small pieces from all across the surfaces. As time went by the problem started aggraveting & currently almost 90% of the leather upholstry has peeled off making the same completely unusable.

While I had been complaining routinely to their customer service department at their telephone contact no - 3091 3333 since Oct' nobody ever turned up to look at my complaint inspite of several promises made. As a last resort I had to take a day off from work and on the 10th of march '2012 I made a personal visit to their showroom at Rajarhat Kolkata. After moving around from one table to another for almost 2 hours I could finally manage to meet one of their service manager by the name Mr Sanjay Balmiki contact no : 7439437427.After I had explained to him my problem and the harrassment that I have undergone he promised to send his repair mecahanic to my flat the next day. Their person never turned up the next day and this time around after some phone calls their man finally turned up to my place on the 12th of March'12 only for an inspection. Although he agreed that the leather material used in the sofa is sub standard and is the sole cause of the problem yet he said that he can carry out the replacement only if we are ready to pay for whatever the cost would be.

Immedietly the next day I took up the matter wit their service manager Mr. Sanjay. He communicated to me that since the product is no more in warranty the cost for replacing the leather upholstry has to borne by me although he agrees that the material used was sub standard & poor quality. He also demanded from me Rs 500/- as his service charges for inspecting the defective product at my residence.

I feel completely cheated now as the product is no more usable and also the peeled off leather pieces is becoming a health hazard for me & my 3 year ols grand son who suffers from chronic respiratory allergy.

I am seeking relief on the above matter from the consumer forum
