Yesterday (20-Dec-09), a guy named Raju, claiming to be a BSNL agent came to our flat to canvas about the new Christmas offer on their broadband, with a lot of great facilities and waivers. We drilled him a lot with regards to the details of the offer. He answered them really well. We were very convinced that it is a genuine offer and paid him a deposit of Rs3000/- of which he said Rs.2500/- is refundable anytime we discontinue the service. He had a genuine looking ID card, application form and receipt book of BSNL .He gave us a number of 9901960497and said today evening he shall install the connection. But today when we tried to call this number, it was switched off. The irony struck us only when we realized his mobile connection is an Airtel one. Then I googled and found the below link which clearly states that we were conned.

Please let me know if anyone has come across this before and what action can be taken now. I shall scan and attach the receipt given by him soon.
