Autorickshaws in Thane
Overcharged, obscene and abusive

This is really the state of Autorickshaws and its drivers mulund checknaka onwards on your way to thane. I am a woman, working in Majiwada Thane for a year now. I take a rickshaw to thane from mulund checknaka. There are these autorickahws lined up much before the checknaka shouting out to passengers to get into their rickshaw. Once or twice i took tem to realize they are obscenely charged and their meters are forged. Haven spoken to a few city autorickshaw drievers i was told that these people play the Checknaka RTO to place their rickshaws much ahead of them and hence recover it from passengers. Looking at this most city rickshaw drivers have followed suit and played along with their meters. On the way while we cross check naka they shout out salutations to the traffic police to show their influence. Whene ever i have pointed it out to them that the meter is fast than what should be usual they hurl back abuses as they know no one will touch them or bother them. There have been times when i have tried to involve check naka police but all they do is ask him to take the normal fare and go. In turn these drivers challenged me saying " i need to remember that i is this route that i will be taking every day and they shall see to things. Reasult i travel each day with a danger just because i choose to be on the right track. If that is how every woman is going to feel insecure about just travelling to my place of work. i am ashamed that i live in a country where we preach women are to be respected.

I will wait for you update for the due coruse of action that you take this issue. Believe me, i challenge you to take a surprise check of the rickshaw metres and of the rickshaw driver licenses, Badges and Uniforms. Though there are certain police check happening on special days at checknaka but they end up giving into the autorickshaw drivers. This clearly shows there may be some merit in the situtation that i highlight.

Please do not revert to me with whose section/area it falls under and where should i voice myself. I havemade a complaint with the biggest consumer body in the country today if you cannot have a resolution i dont think any one can.
