Passport Impounded

Hello,

Nice job, keep up the work. I lost my father and my mother is by herself in Coimbatore. In February, after one year my dad passed away I made arrangements for my mother to come stay with us in US for 6 months with her grand children.

She came from Coimbatore to Chennai and after checking in the luggage and during the immigration process she was stopped and her passport was impounded. They did not give the reason why it was done. She had a valid passport from 1997 with 20 years validitiy. My late father passport serial number is close to my mother's. She stayed in Chennai and visited the passport office and tried to find the reason. They said in 1999 they had come for verification and never heard after that. My parents once visited us in 1998 with the same passport. So my mother filled out an application form and they said it will take anywhere from 15 to 20 days, so she went back to Coimbatore.

She had been waiting for over a month and never had heard from them. Is there anybody who can help us?
