Negative report by CIBIL

I had applied for a credit card from Axis Bank. The application was declined. On enquiry for reasons for decline of application I was told that my application has been declined due to "negative CIBIL record on other banks product as per CIBIL credit report". I have used other credit cards and have never defaulted in any payment. Further I have never taken any loan from any bank. I am not able to understand the reason for a negative CIBIL record. I am interested in knowing the way by which I can know the details of my credit report and how to amend it.
