Conversion of GBP to INR

Hi,

I am Pallavi Bonekar. I have converted some amount from GBP to INR. I have requested to convert the amount on 4 Dec when the rate was 80.86/Pound. But due to some reason, the person did not convert the amount on the same day. He converted the amount next day with rate 80.63/Pound.

I have had a word with the persons manager and he said, if its a fault from their side, they will refund me the rest amount.

Now, when I enquired about the same, I have received a reply - We needed the cheques back for us to reverse the entries and issue new pay orders against the rate of 80.86.Since you have already deposited the pay orders in your bank account which by now would have been cleared we cant reverse the entries without them.

Can anyone tell me -

Why would I keep the huge amount with me at my place, as the person is asking me to refund the cheques?

If they have promised me to refund the difference amount, why they are not keeping their promise?
