Purchased a marble table from delhi

Hi,

We purchased a marble table from delhi, the seller said that as the government is promoting handicraft sale abroad we dont have to pay any vat or shipment charges after paying the table charges by credit card we have the table come to UK after 4 mths and now they are asking us to pay the vat and shipment charges. This is not fair he should have mentioned all this to us before. Can you please advise what can be done in this case.
