Its just incredible DELL continue to do business in India. One of the worst experiences EVER. I bought XPS 1640 in Febuary 2009. Following my experience, rest you decide
1) I called the customer service for enquiry and they reverted back. Dell representative called me and we closed the deal. I sent them the check and then the first trouble started, DELAY in shipment. I was promised the laptop will be ready within 7 working days. NEVER HAPPENED. Finally it was delivered after 21 days.
2) During my configuration time, the dell guy duped me into buying all the different warranties and 64 bit vista system saying this is the best possible system without telling me any drawbacks. (i admit, i should have done my own research, just for mere few 100 Rs he got me to buy 64 bit vista which was crap) To my surprise when i got the system, some of the configuration was AUTOMATICALLY downgraded. For example, i had opted for wirless card which was the latest one and paid 2000 rs extra for it, where as it was only basic.
On confronting, the sales guy, firstly he ignored my calls and emails for few days and when i finally got really wild, and spoke to his manager, they agreed their mistake and said, an enginner will visit to replace it. Engineer showed up and changed the part. They said, for all of this hassle they will sending me a noise isolation headphones. Till todate, nothing. I asked my secretary for few follow ups (just to see how attentitve they were) they simply denied it and said, they want to see in writing if this was offered.
3) After using the laptop for like 2 -3 weeks, i realised it has severe heating problem, and hard drive had clicking noise, called the technical service, spent hours with them, with no results. Engineer came, did some little cleaning and all and said its ready to go. Nothing helped, he asked to buy a cooling mat for it. During this whole ordeal, 30 days return policy lapsed and i was stuck.
4) Recently, last week, my laptop suddenly stopped working. I just couldnt turn it on. I called the technical support again, the guy asked me to open the laptop and check memory and run few diagnostics, the laptop seemed to start but i felt there was something still wierd about it and asked him to send an engineer. He insisted that engineer wasnt required, in few hours, laptop simply stopped working, no power on. I tried calling techincal department on friday night for 2 hrs but i was kept on hold, next i was furious with them, since they said, next engineer can only visit to change mother board and memory on tuesday. The technical guy was extremely rude and kept telling me how good it was that i bought complete coverage. He said, he cannot even gaurantee and tell me if tuesday will be the confirmed visit day for the technician. He said, on monday, someone will call me to confirm, Monday passed, i called them and they said, tech wont be coming till wednesday, i called again on tuesday to know the time, and was informed, tech wont be visiting before thursday or even friday.
5) This is just a ridiculous thing to do, they literally, keep ignoring telephone calls and blame it on their local technician. One support guy even said that, they cannot do anything about it since its (indirectly) not their problem since they only do online support.
This is ridiculous, I spend over 2500 $ aka 1.15 lakh for a laptop, within 6 months of its operation, everything goes worst and there is no support. No one is there to hear u out, and now even calling them aint solving anything.
Dont ever buy DELL and donot fall for their lame ads. They are nothing but crooks.
