Two Gunny bundles of text Book was booked from Delhi to Guwahati vide RR No: A0233556 dated 21.05.11. I t reached guwahati on 24.5.11. However, we could only locate ONE bundle after a thorough search of all seven platforms of this station. In this search none of the railway official or coolie helped us. However, when we wanted to take delivery of that one bundle, we were told that they cannot deliver in part. On 25.5; 26.5;we had been to station (all 7 platforms) to search the consignment by ourselves, but failed to locate the same and the parcel enquiry office in-charge kept on denying to deliver the that One Bundle. On 27.5 finally we had been able to locate both the bundles and got the delivery. However, they charge us the demurrage vide Receipt no: 494790 dated 27.05.11 of Rs. 84.00 (Rupees eightyfour Only)
My points (a) Is it consignees duty to search the consignment and get the delivery?
(b) Why should we pay the demurrage for no fault of ours?
We would be grateful if one does inform me at which point the duty of railways ceases after a consignment is booked from any location...
