REGISTRATION OF SERVICE VOTERS

Armed Forces personnel are entitled to be registered at their place of posting on submitting form 6. Innumerable difficulties are however posed by the civilian authorities at Jodhpur in this regard. Army personnel are made to run from pillar to post since sometimes the ADM - II who has been given the responsibility is not present in his office and at other times, the civilian staff are simply too lethargic and dis-interested in carrying out voter registration since it increases their work-load in having to subsequently issue voters' identity cards etc. Requests made to the DM for organising a camp for services voters in the cantonment area have not yet been entertained despite the offer having been made that the staff from the DM's office would be augmented by clerical staff from the military and administrative arrangements would be made by the military authorities for such a camp.
Services personnel are already in a spin for time as their routine beginning with morning PT and ending with 'lights out' leaves them with little time to waste hanging about govt offices. In such circumstances it would be natural for an average soldier to feel that he is better off NOT registering himself as a voter.
