Loan Approval Criterion

I live in Bangalore and recently decided to purchase a washing machine on EMI. I filled up an application at the Ezone store at the COSMOS mall located at Brookfield. The concerned people (Mr Ashwin PR) called me today stating that my application had been rejected on the grounds that I am a bachelor!! This is totally absurd. How can a company approve or reject an application based only on someone's marital status. You should be interested in the whether I earn enough to pay off the amount or not.
