GRIEVANCE AGAINST HDFC BANK CREDIT CARDS SERVICES AND CUSTOMER CARE

Iam an existing HDFC customer. I have a savings bank account at Ajmer Branch of HDFC.

2. Iam a defence officer. I was offered an HDFC bank credit card by one of the staff at Ajmer branch in Oct 06 while I was at leave in my home town. I had shown very little interest initially because iam usually posted at places that do not make use of credit cards viable. However after a lot of persuasion which I would actually call pestering I agreed for the same and as usual I just had to sign some forms and very meticulously a GOLD credit card was delivered at my address a few days later having no as mentioned above.

3. However as I had mentioned I was in no place to use the card at that time. I got transferred to Bangalore in Jul 07 and I gave a written requisition at the Ajmer Branch for change of correspondence address of my credit cards statements as well as savings bank account statement as I thought of using the card at Bangalore. Ironically the statements of my savings bank account have been reaching me regularly at the present address as mentioned on top, but no credit cards statements were coming through…After a couple of months I again gave a request at Yelahanka Branch for change of address to present address. The requests till date have yielded fruitless results. After contacting the customer care I got the response of contacting the branch.

4. The first time the card was used was after Jul 07 at Bangalore and was used to purchase clothing items twice or thrice the total purchase amt not exceeding more than 3500 Rs. However since I was not receiving the credit cards statements I decided to transfer money through my net banking account which I have done regularly as will be evident from your records. The statements were received irregularly at my Ajmer address initially but then that also reduced. I was out of the country for two months in Jun – Jul 08. I got a call from my parents at Ajmer of some lawyer calling up on behalf of HDFC bank and threatening legal action against me for not paying some Rs 2900! Also this is very surprising for me. My parents received one statement at that time which said that the card had been blocked and that the matter was referred to RBI (for what iam not aware!!). I spoke to customer care of HDFC bank and I believe they are all matriculates employed by your bank who have no knowledge of whatsoever about public grievances. After three times of speaking to them and giving them my phone number and their assurance that someone from your bank would get in touch with me nothing happened. I then spoke to Ms Maitri Sharma who was then the credit cards escalation officer at Jaipur and explained her the matter as the customer care was proving to be of no good. She was very apologetic and promised me that the charges would be reversed for the late fees because I was not at fault for not receiving the statements by posts or by e –mail (the ID was provided at the time of filling the form). But that was the end of it.

5. It has been over 6 months that I got in touch with her but she did not respond. When I asked the Jaipur office I was told that she has left and she has been replaced by someone else who was not available nor was his contact number. Speaking to the customer care again did not yield any results as no one gets back to the customer from your bank within 48 hrs.

6. This kind of irresponsible attitude of customer care and their superiors in credit cards division branch has left me feeling mentally harassed because I wouldn’t have run away with 3000 Rs worth shopping on the credit card even when I was making an effort to pay all my dues on time. As a responsible and law abiding citizen this is my endeavor from the first time I paid through online. The threatening call of HDFC employed lawyers I believe is strictly prohibited by law . repeted telephonic conversations with Mr Mayur of HDFC bank escalation officer/ debt management officer at jaipur has yielded no result neither are the officials at grievance cell at chennai being very helpful. and they are continuously incresing my amount payble from Rs 410 to Rs 5200 since sept till date and this is despite that my card acct has been blocked. what am i supposed to do. iam planning to take legal action for mental and financial harrassment against the bank.
