Penalty on late payment

Hi,

Actually lastime i forgot to pay my credit card bill.my due date was 3rd december. After that i got a call from HDFC bank on 13th december and she told me that if i will pay cash on 15th december they will not give any penalty for this late payment. But when i got my statment for next month it shows 700Rs. penalty. After that i have complain to the hdfc bank on 24th december at 1pm.customet care people said that it is not our responsibility that collection department will say anything to recive payment. I told her that i aggree i have late payment but why collection department told like that "if u pay on monday 15th december there will be no penalty ".what this rubbish? what we have to do? all banks cheat us like this... if i will not pay this time bill again they will charge penalty. Common man have to pay only penalty. Just i have share my incidence with u.everyday many people face this problem. What actions to be taken regarding this...
