Late payment fee

I have the HDFC card no.4346-7710-0536-6100. The due date of payment is normally 8 of every month, I drop the check before the due date. The late payment is charged everytime whereas I have other cards (Citi) they never charged even if the cheque is dropped on last due date.

Kindly clarify.
