Audio compression manager codec

Hi i am a medical transcriptionist by profession. My work includes playing audio files on express scribe player. i had purchased inspiron 1525 with preloaded windows vista for the same work but to my horror, my system does not load wave files saying that audio compression manager codec is not installed. On surfing the net, i got that vista does not support that particular wave format and this is hampering my work a lot. Could you please help me as to how i can fix this problem or how i can get windows XP loaded on my laptop officially?
