Bad quality of woods and pathetic service

We relocated to Hyderabad after joining Satyam Computers just 2 months ago and purchased a dining set (one table and a set of 6 chairs) from @Home, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. We paid an appx. amount of Rs. 30, 000 for the same and the bill declares a warranty period of 6 months.

Even before a month, my husband sat on one of the chairs and it broke. We filed a complaint with them and sent them pictures of the broken chair.

They called back to tell us that we need to pay them Rs. 1000 as service charge for replacing the chair. Their arguement was that the product is not defective, we were just careless.

Our question was how could a set costing 30, 000 break in less than a month and be not defective, especially when the whole wood has broken into 2 and not any of the joints?

It is not a question of paying Rs. 1000. We feel totally cheated by the company. After paying such a huge sum, this is the kind of service they are providing us. And all the manager had to tell us was that we could go ahead and do what we wanted. It didnt make a difference to them at all.
