Credit card account not closed

I have asked the call center employee to terminate my account after paying all the outstanding in lst week of august. Also, the card was expiring by August. After much persuasion the call center employee agreed to do that. I didn't received any settlement letter after that. Since, all my dues were cleared so on assumption that the card account is closed, I stopped using the card. After more than 2 years, they have sent the card statement with 5000/= amount due. After talking to the customer care, also sending email on info@hsbc.co.in, they are are simple telling to contact debt management team. The debt management team can't do anything because they do not have the records past 8 months and they tell to contact the call center. I am just moving from here to their. I don't see the issue getting resolved even after escalation.
In their website http://hsbc.co.in their is no mention of how to close the credit card account. I 'll wait for a month as per their website before approaching banking ombudsman. If that also does not solves the issue I 'll move court.
How they can do something like this?
