Stolen goods from check in baggage

I was traveling from Delhi to Chennai, Chennai to Colombo on 14th September. When i claimed my baggage at Colombo Airport i found it was open and i found that new mobile phone which i purchase for my friend was missing. The mobile phone packet was cut open and the mobile phone was missing from the packet. This is done by Jet Irways ground staff. I owe an explanation and compensation for this act from Jet Airways.
