Refunds on Items that go on sale after you purchase them

Ibought three sweaters at regular price on Oct.6th. They went on sale Oct.19th I brought my receipt back on the 19th to get the sale price. The girl said she couldn't give them to me at the sale price. It was after the 7 day period. The receipt says that I could return or exchange the items by 1/04/09. In order to get the sale price of the items I could bring the items back return them and by them back. Isn't that stupid? why go all though that when they could give me the sale price. bought the items I have my receipt.
