On September 21 my husband Ron had purchased some clothes racks and a display table from the KMart store # 7362 in Rainbow City, Alabama 35906. This store was was in the process of closing in the next few weeks. He told the people there that he would be back the next day to pick them up as he would have to bring a larger truck to carry them back to Fort Payne. He paid for the units and got a receipt to bring back the next day for pickup. At no time that day was he told to bring help to load these items or that store policy prevented them from loading them. The next day, the 22nd, he drove to Rainbow City and I rode along with him to see what bargains I might be able to find. When we got there we shopped a bit and then he went to the service counter to see about getting the items he had purchased the day before and find out where they needed him to park the truck to load these racks and table. The lady at the service desk called a couple of boys that worked there to the front to help load the stuff as it was bulky and somewhat heavy. When they came up front they asked for the manager to come to the front also so that he could make sure that my husband got the right stuff that he paid for. The racks and table were located in the very back corner of the store and the manager told my husband that the boys, who were there and willing to help load the things, could not do so. He said "we do not help load". He would not let the boys help and offered nothing, not even hand trucks to help us. I couldn't carry them. I don't know how my husband did really, but he loaded every rack, carrying each one from the back of the store to the front where the truck was sitting and then I did help him lift them up into the truck. The table was fortunately on wheels or I don't know how we would have managed it. My complaint is the unfriendly attitude and lack of courtesy of the store manager only. They boys didn't seem to be aware of any policy about not helping load products and the lady at the service desk seemed surprised also. My husband was very angry about this whole situation and said had he known they would not help load these things he could at least have brought some guys along to help him. I don't care if the store is closing. This managers attitude was inexcusable. My husband will never set foot in another KMart store. We have one in our town, and we shopped there often, until now.
