Was charged without a confirmed booking

I contacted Make my trip executive to make a booking for Sitla estate, Nainital from 17th to 20th June 09. She confirmed the booking for 3 days and deducted Rs 16000 from my HDFC card (booking no. IN0906B 01996). When I called Sitla estate for directions, they informed me that they have no booking available on those dates and they had no booking in the name of Make my trip. I got alarmed and I immediately called Mr Kunal Bariya of Make my trip and he confirmed that there was a mistake and that they did not get the booking at Sitla.

He said that the money would be credited back into my HDFC account within 1 week, but it has been more than 15 days and the money has not been credited back.

How can they deduct money without confirming if a booking is available. More over I lost out on valuaable vacation time and also went through a lot of harrasment because I could not get any room last minute. This IS HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND THEY SHOULD BE PENALIZED FOR CHEATING INNOCENT HOLIDAY MAKERS.
