NON RECEIPT OF PAN CARD

On 15.02.1999 I received an intimation from the Income Tax Deptt alloting me a PAN, and saying that the PAN card would follow. It never did inspite of reminders.

Later when NSDL took over the work of issuing PAN cards, I made an application to them for issuance of a PAN card, made the neccessary payment. This was in November.

In respone to a reminder first the NSDL said that "Your application for new PAN Card... is under examination at NSDL."

In reply to a subsequent reminder the NSDL stated that " PAN provided in your request for New PANCard... has been deleted/deactivated by the Income Tax Departmentand is under examination at NSDL."

I am an NRI and am not able to make any investments in equities or mutual funds. PLEASE HELP!!
