Non-activation of prepaid mobile connection

Being a winner of a competion conducted by 'Nokia and The Hindu' on the occasion of Friends day on 2nd August at Chennai a Nokia Mobile and a Airtel Prepaid Simcard was offerred to me as a prize. While i wanted to get the connection activated through one of the Airtel dealer in Chennai at Triplicane today at 7.45 pm being a auspicious day today I could not get the connection activated conveying through a SMS to the dealer

"the number requested for activation is not in prepaid data base"

I am very much disappointed about the above and return back home frustrated. Is this the way Airtel treat a customer? I give below the detail of the SIMCARD.
