The TImes of India
Increase in Price without Notification

Newspapers & Magazines

I have been reading The Times of India for the last four-five decades. In the past, whenever the Company raised the price of the newspaper, a notification to the effect was always published, albeit in small letters, on the first page. However, in the recent past, they have stopped publishing the increase in price, whenever it happens, possibly because the prices are being increased randomly every few months. Even though the new price is printed on top of the paper, I do not think anyone reads the price everyday on receipt of the newspaper. Therefore, one realizes the increase in price only when the vendor comes to collect the monthly bill. I believe this practice of not publishing the enhanced price on occurrence is against the MRPT Act 1969, and should not be accepted. May I, therefore, request The Times of India to refrain from this practice and publish the increase in cost on occurrence, however inconvenient.
