BMTC
Senior citizen age reduction for Travel concession

Politics & Government

Dear sir,

The age prescribed by the central govt for obtaining concession for travelling by train for senior citizen is 60years. The same should be applicable everywhere for similar facilities like road transport, air, etc.

But, in Karnataka, for travelling by Busses of KSRTC and BMTC It has been fixed as 65yrs.what is the basis for this? It was 60 yrs earliar. It was modified to 65yrs during 2008.The age at retirement which is 58 to 60 yrs should have been considered for providing concession for bus travel. Thus the Govt should encourage senior citizens to travel by bus than other mode of transport. This also helps in reduction in pollution and saving of petrol and thus the precious foreign exchange. The govt should also encourage people using the busses by giving a concession of 25% for senior citizens as is done by rail authorities in India. This is quite a reasonable demand and the Govt should impliment it immediately.

Presently no concession is given to the senior citizens for the DAY PASSES. The above concession should be extended to the Day Passes also.

At present the monthly passes are issued from 1st to 10th of every month. Instead it should be issued all through the month viz any day of present month valid till the same day of next month. With this there will not be any loss to the Govt, and more people will go for the passes. This will also reduce the pilferage and the problem of issuing tickets in the busses. The govt should accept any standard ID proof with photo (Driving licence, Voter ID, Passport, Bank Passbook etc) instead of ID card from the BTS or KSRTC as accepted by the railways.
