Rental deposit amount not refunded

Hello - This is to bring to everyones notice especially to those looking for rental accommodation here in Bangalore- Please do NOT enter into any contract/ deal with this person - GVV Nagaraj Reddy (vinayaka/venkateshwara residency), Srinivas reddy layout AECS layout block A/ Chinnapannahalli, Bangalore. This guy and his associate - Venkatesh have earned a dubious record of not returning the initial rental deposit amount of their tenants.

I am a victim of their notorious policy. A year ago when I vacated the apt I was handed over a check of my initial deposit (32k) which I gave to my friend since I moved to US. However after couple of weeks my friend complaint that the cheque had bounced, I immediately called up these guys but to no avail as they kept on making false promises and assurances. Since I was not in India so I could not lodge any complain with police/ court. So my question is now that the cheque's validity has expired what all are the available options for me to recover my money from these fraudsters.
