Fraudulent Billing

We moved to Bangalore from Gurgaon in December. In Gurgaon we had taken Airtel Landline connection with DSL (# 0124-4144722). When we moved to Bangalore we asked for the connections to be deactivated. The phone connection was deactivated on 25-Dec as per Airtel Records. The DSL connection, they never disconnected. Now they have come to us asking for payment of amount nearing Rs.40, 000/- saying that the DSL was not disconnected and had been used (don't know by whom). It was Airtel's failure to deactivate the DSL and someone has been fraudulently using it. Why should I be paying it?
