Bad experience with customer service, claiming that my phone will be disconnected for 48 hours switching from postpaid to prepaid

I have had many unpleasant experiences with airtel's uncomprehending customer service, but this one takes the cake. Date: 7 August. Customer hate representative: Jitender. Office: Okhla.

I put in the paperwork to switch from postpaid to prepaid on my Delhi number as I am moving cities; mysteriously, on the eve of my departure, I am told that my number will be disconnected for 48 complete hours. Has anyone else had such an experience, can someone tell me if I am being lied to or not?
