Prepaid balance wiped out suddenly

My AIRTEL prepaid balance keeps getting suddenly wiped out even though no calls or SMSes were made and there was no extra GPRS usage either. I have detailed usage record to the very last byte to prove this.

Every time this happens, they admit their mistake and restore my prepaid balance. But, AIRTEL customer care is rarely reachable.

For the past many days, on dialling 9 to speak to a customer care executive, the IVR says “sms airtel to 121”. It does not transfer to an executive. The sms customer care menu is exactly the same as the IVR menu. And, they don’t respond or even acknowledge emails either.

AIRTEL keeps stealing from it's customers. They get caught only if customers keep detailed usage records and pay attention to their prepaid deductions. Otherwise, AIRTEL goes laughing all the way to the bank.

Maybe, it’s Airtel’s way of taking Holi bakshish! They usually do this around festivals. If they pilfer even small amounts from half their customers, they can declare salary bonuses to their staff.

Earlier I was waiting for mobile number portability so that I could keep the number and change to Vodafone. But now, I’m tired of waiting. It is best to take a new number. That way at least I’ll finally get rid of a few undesirable contacts.
