Customer Complaint - unusual bill

Sir,

I (Satish Natarjan), have been an airtel customer since 2001. I have been holding this current mobile number (919840733770) for the past 7 yrs. I have never defaulted in my bill payments, in fact I hold 2 mobile accounts and it is the same with good credentials that I hold in both of them.

But this month out of the blue on Friday (22-Apr) I receive an SMS stating my mobile unbilled amount is at Rs.8722/- which came by a shock to me. I immediately removed my configured mails from the mobile and ensured that no programs are open. To make things doubly sure I also switched off my phone and restarted it. But to the greatest astonishment of mine, when I called the customer care on Satuday (23-Apr) morning at 09.30 hrs, I get to know that my unbilled usage is at Rs.18000/-. I immediately frantically called the customer care and after 15 to 20 trials finally I landed on a customer executive who was very curt and said they can tell anything only after the bill is generated. My question here is, then why on earth do we have the options of knowing the unbilled amount when the customer cannot do anything to act on it. I got fed up and told that I cannot under any circumstances pay the amount. If it results in my mobile services getting disrupted “AIRTEL WILL BE LOSING A VALUABLE CUSTOMER WHO HAS BEEN LOYAL FOR 7 YEARS.”

Out of anxiety I again called the customer care on Monday morning (25-Apr) to get another shock of my life since my unbilled amount was now standing tall at Rs.21000/- even without making calls or using data for the past 2 days. The irony in the whole episode is that my credit limit is only Rs.5000/- and nobody either called or sent me a message once my unbilled usage crossed Rs.5000/-. There is absolutely no transparency wrt the transactions at all.

In light of all these above incidences, I want to state that my usage has not been anything different this month (April) than what it has been in the last 2 months during which my bills have only been around Rs.850/- per month.

Request you to kindly look into this else I will be constrained to raise this complaint in all consumer forums and blogs so that no other customer feels tortured like this.
