Credit Card membership charged for Free card

One year ago some sales executive of HSBC card came to me and requested me to take a free credit card offered by HSBC Bank. He informed that if the card is not used for a year, the credit card will be automatically deactivated. HSBC may confirm whether to continue or discontinue this card. They promised, this card is absolutely free.

I never used the credit card given by them. Suddently today, I got a credit card statement, saying the outstanding amount is Rs. 2206.93

Out of this 2000 is the membership fees and 206.93 is service tax.

Pls suggest what can be done now.
