No harware fault only software fault

My hp laptop was not working fine. The graphics display had started showing dots. These were mainly on games scerensavers etc. which used the video card. When i called up the hp customer care center they continuosly rejected my complaint saying its a software fault and we are not responsible for providing software assurance. they told me 10 things to do including formatting and reinstalling my OS.
I did everything and still it did not work. I am an IT student so i tried to explain to them that the issues arise only when i try to use graphics but they kept rejecting it. They even said they do not have sufficient technical knowledge to explain why this problem is occurring.
Finally i took it to a repair shop and he replaced the system board and it started working absolutely fine.
Who will repay me for this while i am in warranty.
