Criteria of Admission in College

I have to put the following question here as we parent didn't got satisfactory answer in the meeting. Hope they will give us a relevant/genuine answer.

My son is in IX grade-IGCSE with a reputed school in Mumbai, he is an average student. Recently the school had conducted an orientation program for parents, in that they discussed about Core & Extended level examination. We were informed the difference about core & extended. I feel my son can score highest level in core type examination. The highest level for core X grade is only 60%. We parents have raised the question to school management about the admission in College for XI level, can our ward get admission in any reputed college but they denied. Since the rating will be higher than other level at the same time will be considered by the system at a low percentage comparatively to the general board, in this case will my child get admission in a normal college in Science stream in Mumbai.
